Why Japan

The opportunity — and the challenge.

Japan is the world’s third-largest economy with a sophisticated consumer base, low market saturation in many sectors, and a business culture built on long-term relationships. But it rewards those who approach it correctly — and punishes shortcuts. La Cuna gives you the local knowledge, relationships, and bilingual capability to get it right from day one.

No. We work with clients entirely remotely — from initial consultation through to company registration, partner introductions, and ongoing strategy. Many of our clients have never set foot in Japan when they first engage us.

We work with businesses of all sizes — from solo founders and SMEs entering Japan for the first time, to established international corporations expanding their regional presence. Any industry is welcome.

Company Setup Questions

The most common structures for foreign companies are the Kabushiki Kaisha (KK — similar to a corporation), the Godo Kaisha (GK — similar to an LLC), and the Representative Office. The right choice depends on your business goals, tax situation, and how much operational activity you plan to conduct in Japan. We advise you on the best fit before any paperwork begins.

No. Japan allows 100% foreign ownership and foreign nationals can serve as directors. However, at least one representative director must have a registered address in Japan — which La Cuna can provide.

Many providers require a Japanese guarantor, which is a significant barrier for foreign companies. La Cuna eliminates this requirement entirely.

Yes. We provide a Japan legal address in anywhere in Japan via our partner company  for company registration purposes, available to any industry, with no guarantor required.

Partnerships & Business Development Questions

We draw on an established network of Japanese distributors, agents, investors, and industry contacts built over years of operating in Japan. We match you based on your industry, product, and goals — and make warm introductions rather than handing you a cold contact list.

es. We provide full bilingual negotiation support — preparing you for cultural expectations, reviewing and translating contracts, and sitting alongside you (in person or virtually) during key discussions.

We brief every client on the specific cultural dynamics relevant to their industry and counterparts — from communication hierarchy and decision-making pace to gift-giving etiquette and contract expectations. We also join negotiations directly to ensure nothing is lost in translation, literally or culturally.

Ongoing Support

Yes. Many clients retain La Cuna on an ongoing basis for business development, partner management, and strategic advisory. We offer both project-based and retainer arrangements depending on your needs.

All engagements are handled in English and Japanese. Every document, communication, and negotiation is managed bilingually — with no outsourcing.
